Here I will describe some facts about the Chinese language
By learning Chinese you unlock the potential to speak to over 13% of the world’s total population. A maximum number of people who speak Mandarin are from China. However, there are other countries where Mandarin Chinese is spoken, like Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. It is the official language of China since the 14th century. Learning Chinese can not only help you talk with people in mainland China but also with people in other areas of the world because Mandarin Chinese is used in many other countries and regions outside mainland China.
There are many countries where Mandarin Chinese is not an official language. But due to the presence of large Chinese communities, Mandarin Chinese is spoken. In many countries of Asia like Indonesia, southern Vietnam, and Malaysia, there are huge Chinese communities. There are an estimated 40 million Chinese living overseas, mostly in Asian countries (about 30 million). So it shows that how much widely the Mandarin Chinese is spoken at the global level.
There is also a significant Chinese population living in the Americas (6 million), Europe (2 million), Oceania (1 million), and Africa (100,000). In the United States, Chinatowns in New York City and San Francisco contain the largest Chinese communities. In Canada, a density of Chinese people is located in Chinatowns in Vancouver and Toronto. In Africa, the Chinatown in Johannesburg has been a popular tourist attraction for decades. Other large overseas Chinese communities also exist in Nigeria, Mauritius, and Madagascar. In Europe, the UK holds many large Chinatowns in London, Manchester, and Liverpool. In fact, Liverpool’s Chinatown is the oldest in Europe.
Mandarin Chinese is one of the official languages of United Nations among six official languages. The six official languages are also used for the dissemination of official documents. Generally, the texts in each of the six languages are equally authoritative. These languages are used at meetings of various UN organs, particularly the General Assembly the Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council. Recognition of Mandarin Chinese as one of the official language shows its influence at the global level.
